THORN EXECUTED
PROTESTS HIS INNOCENCE
AUCKLAND, This Day. -
Samuel John Thorn, who was convicted of th 6 murder of Sidney Semour Eyre at Pukekawa on August 24, was hanged at Mount Eden gaol this morning. - On the scaffold Thorn thanked the warders for their kindness and said he thought the police had treated him unjustly. He added: "I did not do this murder, and I don't know who did." Thorn also said on the scaffold: "I am prepared to meet my God. I have made my peace with him and am prepared to meet'him." » When informed that the sentence was about to be carried, out, he said "Right Oh!" Death was instantaneous. —Press Assn.
