WHANGAREI SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

MONTHLY MEETING,

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Schools Committee was held last night in the Whangarei school. Present—Messrs Cutforth (chairman), Hopewell (secretary), Sargent, Moore, Lovatt, Price and Rev. J. R. Clark. REPAIRS AND SUPPLIES. The secretary α-eported that the matters brought "before th c last meeting toad been looked into, but had not yet, owing to adverse circumisitances, (been satisfactorily put Hin order. With regard to the supply of paper and other necessaries an increased allowance had been notified Iby the Board and thes c wants would ibe supplied as soon 'as the grant was received. COCOA AT RECESS. Accounts had been received for ■milk for the months of July and August. The quantity supplied to Horahona school amiounted to 60 gallons and to Whangarei school 74J gallons, the total cost of which was £12 6s. This was considered to be too much for the purpose and too costly, but as *he account must foe met ways and means of raising the money, were discussed, the full amount owing for the cocoa supply being £28, for the payment of which only £6 2s 3d was available. Various schemes were advanced for raising the money, sucn as a school concert, and a .picture benefit, and it was ultimately decided •that the matter be left in the hands of ftihe dhaktman and Messrs Moore and Price to make enquiries as to what could be done and any mecessary arrangements and to report to the next meeting. PARENTS AND TEACHERS' ASSOCIATION. The secretary announced that a meeting (had beien held .at which the (above association had been established. The meeting had been very sue* ■cessfull and laiigured well for .the future k>f iihe association. CHILDREN'S GARDENS. A report was read on t!his .matter and after consideration it .was resolved that the committee take no action. ■ . NEW TECHNICAL SCHOOL. The announcement was made that the High School Board of Governors had (received sufficient' encouragement from the Minister when interviewed by Messrs Oarruth and Crawford in .Wellington, to purchase part of Mr E. 0. Weaver's property and that the Department had made it a icomd'iifei'on that seven acres be resen'ed for technical school purposes.

This 'brought up the matter of the acquirement by th c Auckland Education Board of a portion of Dent's (property for the same purpose.

After due consideration Mr Price* amoved —"That committee approves of the 'new site for a techni-cal-school and that the site on Dent's property Should he added to the primary schtooU ground for a playing erea.'' This was carried' unanimously. As an extension of the playground 5s now an absolute necessity it was further proposed that more ground be tadded 'as the original Shape was inconvenient. A plan showing the area required had been prepared and sent to the Board. RULES AND REGULATIONS. ~ A 'Circular from the Auckland School Commtitees' Association covering ithe rules and regulations of that 'body was received. ACCOUNTS. The secretary reported that the account for water supplied to the school amounted to £12. This amount in comparison with the allowance received was the subject K>f comment, in view of the fact (that in the city and other plao as the water was.supplied free. ' VISITORS. The visitors for next month were appointed: Rev. J. R. Clark for HorahiOKa land Mr I. W. Moore for Wlhaajgarei. ■ SCHOOL ATTENDANCE. The attendances for the past month rwere as follows:— WhangareS—Roll number 533, average 458; Horahora, mil number 250, sin average 210. This, if continued for another quarter gives another assistant to Hott'aihora. The averages were favourably commented on, as much sickness had been lately prevalent in both schools. HORAHORA'S NEW SCHOOL. In regard to the new school at Horahoara further action was urged towards 'the Gompfetfbn of legal requirements standing in the way of its early icomimenicement.
