MAUNGAKARAMEA.

IMPROVEMENT SOCIETY,

The meeting last week took the form of a debate, the subject being ''Are. children deteriorating through vboing given too much liberty?" The affirmative was taken by members of the society, while pupils from the public school took the negative, The school team consisted of Beryl Vaile, Jack Thomason, Tora O , Carroll and Tom Han-nam, who put up a very strong defence, and reflected great credit- on their coach, Mr Gofdon. Their delivery without exception, was very good, and with practice these youag folk will develop into good debaters. The society was represented by, Mies Adams, land Messrs C. Thomason, ,W. Drummond and W. H. Oillinghaim, and all their arguments were of little avaal, as the voting gave an overwhelming, •majority to the juniors. Mr L. P. Adams creditably carried out the duties of "Mr Speaker-," and a most, enjoyable and profitable time was spent by the goodly number present. "dairying notes. \

The weather recently has been very favourable to growthj The grass is coining away nicely, and we may reasonably expect a flush of feed this season. Dairymen being paid reasonable price for their produce, returns should be good, but unfortunately several of our sellers nre still feeling the effecfe of the winter before last, and are only milking half the cows they otherwise would. A good season will be very welcome, as in many eases incomes from 'cream cheques did not run into three figures last season, a fact our labour friends would do well to ponder.
