ONERAHI.

Word was received last week by Mrs Evans, from her husband, Cap-tain-Chaplain Evans, who reports himself in first-rate health and spirits. The letters, dated 21st September, were written from a port -of call of the transport aboard which he is returning , to New Zealand, and the writer expected to be home within a fortnight from that date.

Advice has also been received that Second Lieut. E. Hawkes, who enlisted in New Zealand has been wounded on four '' occasions is returning to the Dominion invalided. It is probable Lieut. Hawkes is making- the voyage aboard the same transport as Captain Chaplain Evans.

Mr Peterwood met with a peculiarly unfortunate accident on Saturday. While still under treatment as the result of a former accident, he slipped on the stairs leading from Dr. Frazerhurst's surgery and fell heavily, re-breaking the newly-knit bone in his leg. This recurrence of trouble is partieualrly distressing, as Mr Peterwood was getting along famously since his first accident, and there was good reason to look forward to an early return to complete recovery and a resumption of business.

Following a request by the Bishop of the Diocese, a special service of song and thanksgiving was held at St. Stephen's on Sunday evening to commemorate General Allenby's glorious victory and the emancipation of the Holy Land from its 700 centuries of thrall to the heathen. Michaelmas .Sunday, 1918, should be, henceforth, doubly momentous to a.ll Britishers, as on that day, more than 300 years ago, a like service of praise was held in all the churches of England, commemorating the defeat of the Spanish Armada.
