Corpl. L. T. Pickmere, Corpl. G_ Windram, and Private J. Marshall are on final leave in Whangarei at present. Engineer E. L. Gosset, reported wounded on October 24, is a cousin of Messrs J. W. and W. M. Gosset, of Whangarei. Living iv "New Zealand when volunteers were required, he enlisted with the Dominion reinforcements. His father, Colonel Frederick Gosset, has also seen service in the present war, and has had a remarkable escape from death. He was one of a group of six offices who were dispersed by a bursting shell, 5 being killed, the Colonel, escaping with injuries. Following on a message that his youngest son, Trooper Bertie Atkinson, Auckland Mounted Rifles, was dangerously wounded on November 7, a second telegram informed the father (Mr, E. Atkinson, Hora Hora, Whangarei) that Trooper Atkinson had succumbed to his injuries on the Bth inst. Trooper Atkinson would have been 28 years old on the 12th of next month. He was born in Auckland, and ceive'd his" education at the West Public School, after which he joined his i'atlier'on-the "farm at Roto--o-Rangi, near Cambridge, Waikato. He came with" Ma ; father" froitf - HheWaikato to Whangarei, with the in- \ tention of managing a property taken up at Whatitiri, but on the war breaking out he felt it his duty to go and "do his bit." He was at one time secretary for the No-license League and was earnestly active in the cause. He worked well among his chums in Egypt, and when out on leave often got one of them back to camp in time to save disgrace. He enlisted in the 15th Mounted Eifies. Whilst at Featherston a portion of his regiment was hurriedly sent off. to-Australia to catch the mail boat for Bombay, where they picked up their, horses ami went to Egypt. He was then transferred to the _rd Auckland Mouuteds and took part with them, .as has been detailed from time to time iv the press. Trooper Atkinson was in the assault upon Gaza on the 7th. and there he received his fatal wound.
