AMONG NATIVE CARRIERS,

LONDON, July 20

In the House of Commons Mr Molteno asked as to the causes of sickness and casualties among the native carriers in East Africa, which were stated to reach a monthly average of ten to fifteen per thousand.

Mr Macpherson replied that the causes principally were malaria, pneumonia,, cerebro-spinal fever, and dysentery. Fifty-two medical men had been posted in temporary hospitals and additional help from South Africa was Being obiained.
