THE LENS OPERATIONS.
(High Commissioner's Cable.) WELLINGTON, July 1.
The High Commissioner reports, under date, London, 30th June, 11 p.m.: Sir Douglas Haig reports: a "Additional information confirms the success of our recent operations near Lens. Besides the capture of prisoners and machine-guns already reported, an .important advance was made on a total front of four miles and a depth of over one mile, with the result that a series of strongly organ-is-'-d defensive systems on both banks of the Souchez River, covering Lenß, was captured, Ai'The whole of our objectives were gained on each occasion with .slight loss to us and considerable casualties to the enemy. Positions of great strength and both tactical and stragetic importance are now ours.'
