LOCAL AND GENERAL.

Mr W. H. White, district agent for International Correspondence Schools, Auckland, is on a few days visit to Whangarei. He will be pleased to meet new and old students at McMahon's Hotel.*

The Whangarei Orchestra have received a wire this morning saying that Mr Stanley Pritchard, the famous Auckland baritone who won the last Auckland competition, will sing at the next concert given by the orchestra in Whangarei.

of the latest'contributors to the Servian Refugees' Relief Fund from this district are Hikurangi Dairy Company, £35; Maungatapere Co-op. Dairy Company, £25; Kaikohe Slav Committee, £41 4s 6d; E. Mandich, Dargaville, £2 2s; A. Drake, Kawakawa, £2 12s; J. Maxwell, Kohukohu, £H Is.

Before Mr E. Page, S.M., yesterday afternoon, in the case of Abraham L. Stokes v. Taki Hoterone, of Mctatau, the plaintiff sought to recover £47, the amount of judgment, with costs. Five pounds had been paid, the total sum demanded was, therefore, £43 10s7d. The Magis. trate made an order for the payment of the judgment forthwith with further costs, a total of £45 14s 7d, or in default 30 days' imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended so long as £ 5 a month was paid off the debt.

Most of the shooters are still out after the birds. Those who have returned to Whangarei report that pheasants are plentiful, but very wild and wary. With good dogs it is possible to get a fair bag, but with indifferent kennel companions it is difficult to get the birds. The best bag brought into Whangarei so far as the "Advocate" has been able to ascertain, numbered about eight brace. Some good sportsmen have been obliged to return with only a couple of brace each. The number sent through the post office yester. day was only fair.
