Five pounds had been paid, the total sum demanded was, therefore, £43 10s7d. The Magis. trate made an order for the payment of the judgment forthwith with further costs, a total of £45 14s 7d, or in default 30 days' imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended so long as £ 5 a month was paid off the debt.
Most of the shooters are still out after the birds. Those who have returned to Whangarei report that pheasants are plentiful, but very wild and wary. With good dogs it is possible to get a fair bag, but with indifferent kennel companions it is difficult to get the birds. The best bag brought into Whangarei so far as the "Advocate" has been able to ascertain, numbered about eight brace. Some good sportsmen have been obliged to return with only a couple of brace each. The number sent through the post office yester. day was only fair.
