Referring to the death of Mrs Hamilton A. Wilson, which occurred in New Plymouth on Friday last the Taranaki "Herald" says: "Mrs Wilson was the third daughter of Mr Furlong, of New ' Plymouth. The deceased lady had been ill for some time and in January came to New Plymouth for treatment, but all that medical skill and careful nursing could do proved of no avail. Before her marriage Mrs Wilson was a nurse and was closely associated with the New Plymouth Hospital, where she held the position for some time of head nurse. Subsequently she was appointed matron of the Hawera Hospital and carried out her duties at that institution with marked efficiency and on resigning her position received a presentation, which took the form of a silver tea and coffee service, from the citizens in recognition of her work.

V The old Maoris are now fast disappearing from amongst us. Last week Porotange Pan-ore died. She wias a sister to the well-iknown Wairoa (northern) chief Boxer Parore, and also to Hawkin Parore, who visited England in company with Sydney Taiwhanga in the late Queen Victoria's time, carrying with him a petition from the Maoris to her Majesty. Porotange 's father, Parore, was a very powerful chief in the old days, being a relation of the chiefs Tirarau, Taurau and Tito. Porotange Parore was the wife of William T'e Hau, of Dargaville, where she resided. Some little time ago her house was burned down in which he had many heirlooms that she valued very dearly. She seemed to take her loss very much to heart. She leaves several daughters (some of whom were of a former marriage), to mourn her loss. There was v a large gathering of Maoris from all parts of the northern districts at her funeral.
