THE UNFIT BADGE.

We are glad to be able to report thai, the Defence Department has done away with the Unfit Badge. Seme time ago we expressed the strong opinion that its use would seriously militate against the wearing of the badges, which would mean that the general public would be unable to distinguish between those who hav e enlisted and those who have not. Under the new arrange, ment all who have offered their services to the Empir e (whether they called upon or not) will be entitled to the Khaki badge. The only other badge will be the' Scarlet distinction of the returned soldiers. Holders of the French grey badges may now return them to the Defence Department and have them changed. W e are glad that this sensible alteration !::>:; been made and we feel sure- that, it will do much to encourage the wearing of badges and more clearly enable the people to reco'.inso who are willing to serve their country and who are not.
