COUNTY COUNCIL'S PURCHASE.
MOTOR CAR FOR ENGINEER
PROTEST BY A COUNCILLOR
One of th e first actions of the newly-constituted Whangarei, County Council, which met yesterday, was to decide on the purchase of a.motor car for the use of the engineer (Mr W. M. Fraser).
On the motion of ■Cr McLennan, seconded by Cr Phillips, the decision was arrived at unanimously.
After the purchase had been decided upon Cr Hay raised some objections. He believed that the purchase of a motor car would be a serious blunder on the part of the council, as the car would not be of any use iii the backblocks. He favoured the purchase- of a motor cycle, but none of the other councillors supported his views. ■".■■■' It has been arranged that the cost of the car will be divided pro rata among the different ridings.
