AUCKLAND, Jan. 12
At Westfield, on Thursday, 4th inst., best dairy cows made £8 12s 6d to £12 15s; others, £5 to £8; empty, £4 to £4 12s 6d; aged stores, £1 10s to £2 12s 6d; 18-month heifers, £4 ss. On January 10 there were 291 head of beef yarded. The demand was moderate and prices were irregular. Choice steer beef, 265; ordinary, 22s to 1 245; choice heifer beef, 235; cow, 18s to 22s per lOOlbs. Steers made £6 7s 6d to £1117s 6d; heifers and cows, £3 to £8 2s 6d. The 55 calves penned sold at lower rates, under steady competition. Heavy runners, £2 14s to £4; suckers, £1 12s to £2 14s; lighter, 12s to 16s; fresh dropped, 3s to 10s. The sheep pens were well filled, 1684 being yarded. Prime wethers, 19s to £1 2s 9d; medium, 15s to 38s 3d; heavy ewes, 15s to 16s 9d; others, 9s 3d to 14s 9d. Lambs, were short of requirements and sold at an advance on last week's rates. Prime, 16s 6d to 18s; medium, lis 3d to 14 s 9d; light and unfinished 7s 6d to 9s (480 sold). An average market of pigs met with a ready sale. Baconers, £2 9s to £2 18s; large porkers, £-2 16s to £2 17s 6d; lighter, £1 10s 6d to £1 19s; weaners, 15s to 18s; suckers, 6s to 7s (124 sold). j
