AUCKLAND CHORAL SOCIETY.
The Auckland Chora-KSociety gav.'e ihelt final concert cf the season on, TSjueffday, last, when Sullivan's Martyr cf AritiQch was the piece, performed. . The concert was in every wa,y a, complete success, and was fully appreciated by the crowded audience- that witnessed its production^ The solos woi-c allotted as follows : — Margarita, Mrs Arch. Tavlor ; Julia, Miss J. Knight/; Olybius, Mr Geo- Reid; Caallias, Mr A. Taylor i FabitlS, Mr 8, ( .5. Abel. Mrs Taylor sung with mud' precision and sweetness, her high notes and her good enunciatiation being especially admired. The recitative and air, " Yet Once Again," was undoubtedly thd gem of jjthe, evening,. Miss Julia Knights rich contralto voide was .hoard, to much advantage in the solo ''tc Paean." and the fair vocalist was warmly applauded. Mr Reid sung with vigour the solos allotted to him, and materially assisted in making the concert a success. Mr A. Taylor, who had taken the part of Callias at very short notice was also in good voice, and flitng with his usual accuracy arid . good taste. ,Mr Abel alscf acquitted himself admirably in the! siriali part allotted to him. . The chorus singing was especially good, throughout, .and re-^. fleeted great credit on the exertions of the conductor, Herr Schinitt, who must be congratulated for the successful maner in which the concert passed off. The secretary, Mr Edmiston, was, as usual assiduous in attending to the wants of both public and performers, and deserves special praise. The next performance by ihe Society, will , be J?iven on Friday evening, . December fist; $ben the annual performance of Handel's Messiah will be produced. On Sunday afternoon December 23rd, the usual free performance to which the public are admitted will take place. After Christmas, the favourite oratrio, "Moses in Egypt will be put into rehearsal.
