WAIPU.

(From our own Correspondent.) The previously arranged running match for £5 a-sidej between A. Dent of Whailgareii and F: McKay, of Waipu, came off last Monday afternoon, in the Caledonian paddock, before a large concortrse of the settlers. Mr Steven acted as judge, and. Dr. Mountain as starter. The match was for two out of three* runs, 100, 200, and 300 yards. Dent won the first run. leading by about 6 feet. The second fell to McKay by one foot load, after a splendid spurt of 30 yards breast-a breast. The last run formed a semicircle of which Dent won the inside by toss, and the race by 3 feet, dropping in an epileptic fit at the moment of victory. Ho soon revived and was awarded three hearty cheers. A similar compliment was given to the loser. The embryo fife and drum band strove with praiseworth energy to enliven the proceedings with their best efforts at melody.
