Servicemen's Wives Will Have to Wait
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 27. The Minister of Defence (Hon. F. Jones) said tonight that numerous inquiries were being received from servicemen as to when their wives and fiancees could be expected to leave England. The position was that these women must travel by ordinary passenger ships and accommodation was extremely limited. Tho High Commissioner’s Office in London was watching the shipping situation closely and doing everything possible to get passages, but it would bo a considerable time before there were passages for all who wished to travel to New Zealand. At the present time priority was being given only to expectant mothers, according to their time of confinement, and deserving compassionate cases. Mr. Jones said that all others were being allotted passages in turn as accommodation was available find all interested could be assured that everything possible was being done.
