Officers of the Chief Post Office assembled a few days ago to bid farewell to Mr. IV. D. Maxey of the mail room staff, who lias retired after completing 40 years' service. The Chief Postmaster, Mr. M. R. Aldridge, in presenting Mr. Maxey with a fire-side chair, made eulogistic reference to Mr. Maxey's long and faithful service to the department. Other speakers from various branches of the Post Office also joined in wishing Mr. Maxey many happy years of leisure. In replying Mr. Maxey referred to his happy associations with his fellow officers and returned thanks for the good wishes extended to him. G-ored by Bull. Whilst endeavouring to untruck a 7-year-old Jersey bull from a motorwagon on the farm of Mr. Erl Beazer, at Mt. Biggs, at about 4.30 o’clock yesterday afternoon, a married man named Claud O'Reilly was attacked by the bull and is now a patient in the Palmerston North Hospital. It appears that it was necessary for O 'Reilly, who is employed on Mr. Beazer's farm, to enter the cattle-crate on the truck. The bull being restive, gored Mr. O’Reilly, then tossed him high out of the crate to the ground where he was picked up unconscious. Medical aid was summoned and it was found he had numerous body wounds and concussion. Meanwhile the bull was left in the truck and the driver, Mr. T. Cook, proceeded to obtain other assistance in order to have the bull removed. Attention is directed to an advertisement in this issue calling tenders for the painting of 90 railway houses at Ngaio.
