New Non-stop Record Made By Super-Fortress
WASHINGTON, Nov. 20. The Army Department has announced that a Super-Fortress, flying from Guam, established a new non-stop distance record. The plane covered 8198 miles to Washington. The British held the previous record of 7158 miles from Egypt to Australia. The Super-For-tress, stripped of excess weight, took off with 11,110 gallons of fuel, representing almost half its gross weight. It carried a crew of specially trained veterans of the Pacific War. When it landed at Washington after Its 35-hour flight, General Arnold met It and pinned the Distinguished Flying Cross on each member of the crew.
