Separatist Movement In Iran
LONDON, Nov. 21,
The Persian Ambassador has given Mr. Bevin the latest reports on the situation in Azerbaijan, says Reuter. The Times’ diplomatic correspondent says that the events in Northwest Persia have caused some disquiet in London. It has been known for some time that the movement in Northern had taken a decidedly separatist form of action. The Russian commander, in ordering back Persian reinforcements, appeared to have taken an action not warranted by the AngloSoviet treaty of alliance with Persia. The treaty permits the Allied Powers to maintain such forces in Persia as they consider necessary, but states that this does not constitute military occupation and will disturb as little as possible the normal application of the Persian laws. It is therefore not surprising that this seeming breach of the treaty should have aroused anxieties not confined to Teheran.
