Happiness Club is Four Years Old

The fourth annual meeting of the Happiness Club was held in the Orange Hall, Lombard .Street, on April 17 when Mrs. J. Penketh, tho past president, was elected unopposed. The committee elected for the ensuing year is as follow: —Secretary (Mrs. V. Doull); treasurer (Mrs. K. Bambury); vice-president (Mrs. J. Creighton); Mesdames Anderson, Barlow, Colpman, Dredge, Ferguson, Spooner, Skinner, Watts, Wilton, Wiggins and Middleton. Mrs. Penketh extended a hearty welcome to all also to visitors from Auckland, Napier*, Christchurch and Central Otago. Members were asked to stand in silence as a tribute to the late President Roosevelt. Two new members were enrolled. The happy thought was read by Mrs. Creighton, after which a bright programme was presented. Mrs. Penketh asked members to help stock the Patriotic Shop at the end of this month. The ball in aid of the crippled children was an outstanding success. The chair that had been donated by the*club will be presented to the returned boys in hospital on Friday. Birthday gifts were presented to Mesdames Sykes and Campbell. A competition was won by Mrs. Le Cheminant. Artists contributing to tho afternoon’s pleasure were as follows:—Mrs. Dymock, recitation; Mrs. Feibig, vocal solos; Mrs. Bigham at the piano; Miss Robin James, Spanish dance; Mesdames New and Bigham, vocal duets. Mrs. Mcllroy played for the club song. Mrs. Penketh thanked the artists and hostesses.
