Airmen Reported Missing

Otlicial notification has been received by Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Driver, of Fitzroy street, Palmerston North, that their youngest son, Flying-Officer L. K. Driver, has been reported missing on air operations. Flying-Officer Driver, who is 22 years of age, was educated at the Hokowhitu School and the Palmerston North Boys’ High School and prior to joining the R.N.Z.A.F. was employed in Auckland.

Among those posted missing is PilotOfficer Tan H. Dustin, who recently received his commission, and who is the only son of Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Dustin, of Palmerston North. Born in Palmerston North 25 years ago, Pilot-Officer Dustin was educated at the West End School and Technical School. Subsequently he joined his father in his catering business. Pilot-Officer Dustin distinguished himself on the playing field not only in New Zealand but also in England, which he represented at Rugby football. While living in Palmerston North he played for Ihe United senior team, and also for Manawatu, being a prominent frontrank forward, his hooking being of great value to the Manawatu side. When stationed in Canada Pilot-Officer Dustin represented the R.N.Z.A.F. Rugby football team in a match against the R.A.A.F., the contest being played under electric light. His form in England was highly praised by the foremost Rugby "critics. Pilot Officer Dustin was also a loading member of the West End Swimming Club and the Manawatu swimming team, being a line breastsroke performer. He joined the R.N.Z.A.F. in 1939 and sailed for Canada in October, 1940. He later went to England, where he was engaged in flying Sunderlands with the Coastal Command. Recently he was transferred to the Bomber Command.
