In the Victory Loan Campaign, Navy Week commenced yesterday. The larger business houses are cooperating with window displays depicting life in the Navy. The great debt we owe to the senior service and the Merchant Navy can never be repaid in coin of the realm. Had it not been for the gallant manner in which both arms of the service carried out their hazardous duties a different tale would be told to-day. The seas have been kept clear for our men, produce and supplies being shipped safely overseas. If the response to the Victory Loan is measured in terms of our debt to our seamen the Victory Loan would be oversubscribed this week.

The total of £231,206 invested for the first week of the campaign is much higher than the figure for the Third Liberty Loan last year, but an average weekly investment of £300,000 is required for each of the remaining four weeks if we are to succeed in reaching our objective. Intending investors are therefore requested to make the fullest possible contribution to the loan at the earliest date.

In other centres features are being exploited to arouse public interest in the Victory Loan. For the first time since the commencement of the war the naval dockyards at Devonport are bejing thrown open to visitors on September 9, when naval features will be demonstrated, including a diver at work under water.

At a meeting of the Farmers' Union in Auckland it was decided to commend the Victory Loan to farmers in the national interest and do everything possible to assist.
