2000 Flying-bomb Sites in France

Received Friday, 8.50 p.m. LONDON, Sept. 1.

The Germans had roughly one flyingbomb launching site every two or three miles between Rouen and le Havre, said the Mayor of Rouen to tbe British United Press’s correspondent. Tho mayor added that according to reliable reports the Germans altogether had about 2000 launching sites in France. ‘‘We, a few days after the invasion, saw the first bombs launched. Three or four fell on French soil and 10 fell in the' area around my house. The Germans a fortnight ago started blowing up and dismantling the sites in this area. I believe the majority of the sites west of the Rouen-Dieppe line are unuseable.” The British United Press’s correspondent with the British forces, cabling after the troops made the night march to Amiens, said: “We in the last few hours have taken prisoners who were weeping with fatigue. Some of them were carrying letters to their parents which had never been posted. The unvarying theme of the letters was: ‘All is over.’ ”
