May Meeting of Townswomens Guild
Mrs. W. S. Woodrooie presided over the May meeting of the Palmerston North x’ownswomen’s Guild, the Orange Hall oeing brightly decorated for the occasion. Mesdames bweeney and Silson wrote in appreciation of sympathy sent in their .uness, and the secretary, Y.jM.C.A. Hut,
wrote in grateiul terms for aie guild’s services in the canteen over a long period. A welcome was extended to Mrs. I. Warren, a visitor from Christcnurch, and Mrs. F. Anderson, an old member returned. Sympathy with all members who were indisposed was expressed by the president with hopes for a speedy return to health. Circle reports ~-ere presented by the conveners as follow: Mrs. J. Kennedy (gardening), Mrs. xiunt (music), Mrs. H. D. Howley drama), Mrs. Gray (arts and crafts), Mrs. AsKew (soldiers’ parcels). Keport,ng on the activities of the music circle, Mrs. Hunt referred regretiully to the loss to the circle by the forthcoming departure of Mrs. C. Jamieson to Dunedin, voicing appreciation of her services. Thanks were also extended to Mrs. L. O. Jones for undertaking the duties of pianist in the illness of Mrs. F. Wollermau whose services were also commended. With the members of the circle on the stage to present vocal selections Mrs. Woodroofe took the opportunity of farewelling Mrs. Jamieson, also M rs - J - Whitehead who had filled a dual role in the drama and music circles, who is shortly removing to Napier. Shoulder sprays were presented to these members with evei - y good wish for happiness in their new spheres. Items contributing further to the afternoon’s pleasure were as follow: Mrs. Howley, musical monologues; Mrs. Jamieson, songs; Miss Edwards and Brian El wood, elocutionary selections. Mrs. Jones was the accompanist. Thanks to the performers were conveyed by Mrs. Finch.
