(From Our Own Correspondent.) Mrs. J. R. Osborne, president of the Apiti Plunket Committee, was in the chair at a well-attended meeting of Plunket mothers and supporters, when it was decided to purchase a new set of scales. As £l6 is needed for this purpose it was decided to hold a garden party at the home of Mr. W. J. Viles. Mrs. C. McKenzie has promised a cake and Mrs. J. Cawood a pair of turkeys for competitions. Mrs. Munro and Mrs. Lockett will be in charge of stalls for produce and needlework. A baby competition will bo organised by Mrs. R. Woolinan and Mrs. R. Mac Kay has promised a prize for the winning baby. Good business at the “bring and buy * stall, in charge of Mrs. Munro, helped the funds. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames J. R. Osborne, 11. Schmidt, S. Knight, A. Lockett, K. R. Lambie, H. G. Mapson and J. Jensen.

All the members of tho Marton Block branch of the W.D.F.U. were present at the September meeting held at the home of the president, Mrs. A. W. Viles. Mrs. H. C. Mclntyre, of the provincial executive, was a visitor who gave a report of the recent provincial meeting. Miss Rae Jensen presented the visitor with a posy of spring flowers. Next meeting is to be at Mrs. Cockburn’s, and it is hoped to have a visit from Mrs. J. Harris. The competitions will be for best bloom, three pansies or violas and three plain scones. Competitions resulted as follows:—Best three bulbs, Mrs. Cockburn I, Miss Jensen and Mrs. Viles equal 2, Mrs. S, J. Martin 3; collection of 12 spring flowers, Mrs. Viles and Miss Jensen equal I, Mrs. Brazier and Mrs. Cockburn equal 2, Mrs. Martin and Mrs. A. Viles equal 3. Afternoon tea was served by the hostess.

i Mr. W. McKay was in the chair at a meeting of the Apiti Domain Board and thanked, all the trustees for their services in the past year. The board *s finances are in a satisfactory state and the property in good order and repair. The secretary, Mr. W. Hogan, and caretaker, Mr. Clifton, were thanked for the way in which they carry out their duties. The public are evidently quite satisfied with existing arrangements, as no one not connected with the Domain Board was present. The following trustees were re-elected for a term of seven years:-—Messrs. W. McKay (chairman), C. A. Spence, H. C. McIntyre, N. J. Viles, D. C. Buckman, J. F. K. Jensen, T. W. Pratt, T. K. McLean and T. E. Nix.

Despite the very wet weather on election day, most people came out to vot.o and also attended the sale of work organised by the ladies of the Presbyterian Guild, who had a busy and successful day. Well-stocked stalls for the sale of needlework, produce and sweets and an attractive display of competition cookery, needlework and flowers were centres of interest from mid-morning until late afternoon. As usual the bran tub was well patronised by the children. The Busy Bees stall was laden with goods made by the young people, the proceeds being for their mission schemes. The competitions were judged by Mesdames K. R. Lambie and L. Nalder and Mr. W. M. Duncan. Results as sponge, Mrs. F. Massey 1, Mrs. H. Jensen 2, Miss Cowan 3; date scones, Mrs. J. 1 and 2, Mrs. A. Munro (daffodil) 1, Mrs. W. Jensen (hyacinth) 2, Mrs. W. Duncan (camellia) 3; buttonhole (primers), R. McKay 3, B. McKay 2, G. McLean 3; buttonhole (Stds. 3,2 and 3), Margaret Jensen 3, Audrey Prujean 2 and 3; two varieties biscuits (girls), Mabel McNicol 3, Margaret McNicol 2, June Jensen 3; three varieties biscuits (High School girls), Nell Dobson 3; boys’ woodwork, lan Jensen 1, Peter Jensen 2. Trophies were donated by guild members. The following were the winners of the various competition games: Golf, Mrs. R. L. Nicholson and Mr. B. Waterson; taipo, Brian Viles; darts, Mrs. H. Jensen and Mr. J. D. Kilgour; | quoits, Mr. and Mrs. W. Duncan; pushball, Margery Buckman.
