New Telephone Directory Printing Approved

As the result of representations made by the Pahiatua Borough Council and the Chamber of Commerce, the district is to have the long-awaited revision of the telephone directory. This information was conveyed to the Borough Council in a letter from Mr. J. G. Young, Director-General of the Post and Telegraph Department. Under date September 8, Mr. Youn« Writes as follows:—In reference to your letter dated August 5, concerning the reprinting of the Wairarapa telephone directory, I have to inform you that the approval of the Government Services Paper Conservation Committee has just been obtained for the printing of the more out-of-date provincial telephone directories, and it is hoped to commence the work as soon as the printing of the new Dunedin directory is completed. The Wairarapa directory will be one of the first reprinted, and it is anticipated that it will be available for issue to eubscribers early in the New Year. As the printing of a supplement would only delay the issue of the new directory, it is not proposed to take any action in that direction.

Ihe reply to your letter was delaved pending the conclusion of the negotiations with the Paper Conservation Committee for the release of paper to permit of the smaller directories being printed.
