Farmers’ Union

. Mr. A. Kamsden, president, presided over a meeting of the Woodville branch of the Farmers’ Union. The Provincial ; president and secretary, Messrs G. Cami mock and H. S. M. Quigley, were in ; attendance, also Air. Cammock gave a ; resume of the business transacted at . the annual conference of the union and congratulated the branch on the work it was doing in the interests of farmers in the Woodville area. The formation i of the primary producers’ national organisation was discussed and the ■ branch decided to send to the Pro viai cial Executive a remit endorsing the , action taken by tho Dominion conference, the wish being expressed that the proposed national organisation be pushed on with as quickly as possible. The provincial secretary outlined some of the chief points re organisation work, being congratulated by the meeting tor the good work being done in Southern Hawke’s Bay. The meeting discussed the matter of the Rehabilitation Committee which is being set up at Woodville and the Dominion secretary wrote stating that the secretary of the Rehabilitation Board had requested the Provincial Executive to nominate a representative for the committee. Air. A. Ramsden was nominated as the farmers’ representative, being a returned soldier with a wide knowledge of the Woodville district. The president stated that Air. Ramsden's name would go forward and the confirmation of the Provincial Executive would be made at the meeting on September 23. Air. A. E. East asked if something could be done to assist girls working on farms to get extra coupons for necessary farm clothing. There were many girls doing excellent work. This matter will be brought up at the next Provincial Executive meeting. Congratulations were extended to the branch on the excellent local work it was doing regarding the gift calf scheme for returned soldiers. Air. E. J. Harding, hon. secretary, reported that already one returned soldier had received his five heifers in that district. Air. A.
