Mr. Churchill’s Message of Greeting
(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, July 6. Mr. Winston Churchill, Sir Dudley Pound, and Sir Charles Portal have sent messages to Chungking on the occasion of the sixth anniversary of the outbreak of the Sino-Japanese war. Mr. Churchill telegraphed Marshal Chiang Kai-shek sending the greetings of the British people and stating that neither China nor Britain was ever likely to under-estimate the colossal difficulties anu immense battles which still lie before them.
The road would not be without setbacks and disappointments, but the pattern of events was now becoming clear. The initiative was being wrestea from the grasp of the enemy and we could look forward with confidence ana hope to a time when all over the worla aggressors were driven to unconditional surrender.
When this was accomplished, Mr. Churchill added, he had no doubt that Anglo-Chinese collaboration, tested ana tempered in the fire of war, woula play its rightful part in the solution of the problems of peace. Admiral Pound sent the Royal Navy’s warm greetings to the commander oi the Chinese naval headquarters and the Chinese people and Air Chief Marshal Portal telegraphed to the chief of the Chinese Aeronautical Commission in similar terms, stating that as the R.A.r. was now striking mortal blows against the Axis in Europe, so it fully intendea to play its part in bringing to an ena the tyranny of Japan in Asia.
