Pahiatua Quota Exceeded

OVER £3,400 IN ONE WEEK The completion of the Pahiatua 1943 Patriotic Appeal by Saturday night after one week’s collecting, reflects great credit on the Pahiatua Patriotic Society, the entertainers and the general public. At the Drill Hall on Saturday night, Mr. A. G. Hogg thanked all present for their support and advised his audience that the quota had been exceeded, the sum of £1,234 resulting from the Gala Day Carnival that day. Mr. Hogg conveyed the thanks of all to the Manawatu Pipe Band and the competitors, who had come from beyond the district. Mr. J. Hutton said that it gave him great pleasure to advise that the appeal had been completed and he thought it was a reflection of the desire of the people of the district to do their best by the boys overseas, w r ho were prepared to give their all. Mr. A. W. JBisset took the opportunity to congratulate the Patriotic Entertainers on their achievement that day. Mr. W. A. Carthew asked Mr. Judd to make the customary presentation to the following soldiers who were on leave— Ptes. Checkley, Chisnall, Cosford ana Corkill. Mr. Judd said it was very gratifying to know that the quota was exceeded and thanked all concerned for their co-operation.
