Y.M.C.A. Social

Tho absence of many of the senior members, who are serving in the Armed Forces prevented the Y.M.C.A. from presenting its annual gymnastic display, to complete the season, but an enjoyable social gathering was held on Tuesday evening in the Y.M.C.A. buildings, when the parents of the younger members were entertained. A varied programme of gymnastic displays was presented by each section, and particularly fine trapeze work was done by B. Todd, D. McxNab, and L. Mair, their ability reflecting diligent practice and perfect timing. Some of the smaller boys, under the tuition of Mr. N. Hastings, gave an exhibition of boxing, members of the Y.W.C.A. presented rhythmic exercises and dancing, and a group of secondary school girls proved their gymnastic ability. The chief feature was an indoor basketball match, Age v. Beauty, in which Mr. R. O. Haddon captained a team in weird attire to victory over the Y.W.C.A. by 14 points to 7. The president (Mr. G. A. Eliott.) thanked all who were interested in the Association’s welfare and had helped it, especially tho secretary (Mr. A. V. Pizzey) who had been most energetic. The Y.W.C.A. was also thanked, also the Deputy-Mayor (Cr. G. Tremaine), who had found time to attend the function. Mr. Tremaine commended the association on its good work and expressed the hope that it would continue to be a guiding influence in the lives of future generations.
