New Zealand’s Gratitude to Australia
Per Press Association WELLINGTON, May 9. Acknowledgment of Australia’s assistance to New Zealand in the recent critical months was made by Rt. Hon. P. Fraser in a special statement issued on Saturday on behalf of the Government and people of New Zealand. He said he took the opportunity in view of recent statements made in the press and referred to in the House and emphasised that iff all the efforts being made to complete preparedness against the common enemy New Zealand gratefully acknowledged Australia’s encouragement and practical support. Mr. Fraser referred to the goodwill shown by Australia to visiting New Zealand ministers and said New Zealand had nothing but the warmest support and closest collaboration in the war effort from Mr. Curtin and the Government and from the Menzies and Fadden Governments.
“We are naturally disappointed that the Dominion is not included within the Anzac military strategical command but despite this there exists the closest liaison between the two Governments,” Mr. Fraser said. “There is no division in the hearts of our peoples or in their determination to assist each other to the utmost in the common task. ’ ’
