Sir Arthur Sullivan, of Gilbert and Sullivan fame, set out with a companion one afternoon to attend a tea nt a house where had been once before. When they reached the right street, Sir Arthur could not remember tho house number. “Never fear, I will find out,” he said. Then lie proceeded to walk up to each door, give its boot-scraper a gentle tap with his foot and listen closely to the tone it gave out.
