Palmerston North Branch Of League of Mothers

ADJUTANT TYLER THE SPEAKER Dahlias, chrysanthemums and other autumn blooms, with foliage, formed the attractive decorations on stage and tables for the May meeting of the Palmerston North branch of the League of Mothers, Mrs. A. McPherson presiding over the usual large attendance. After welcoming the members, the president offered a cordial welcome to Adjutant Tyler, of the Salvation Army, the guest speaker, not only to the meeting, but to Palmerston North, with the hope that her term in the city would be a happy experience. Mrs. Alty was welcomed as a new member, and Mrs. Kirkland, of Winton, as a visitor. Kindly sympathy was expressed “with sick members, Mrs. Ashcroft now having left hospital, and with Mesdaines Jacobs, Jenkinson and O. Christiansen, who are in hospital, with the hope that all would soon be returned to health. Mrs. McPherson also expressed, regret that Mrs. A. Smith, a valued member, was shortly removing to Auckland, and on behalf of the members, wished her happiness in her new sphere. Miss Eawstron wrote from Christchurch, where she is on holiday, conveying greetings also from Mrs. V. Stagpoole, a former member. The happy thought was given by Mrs. E. W. Drake. Pleasure Avas given to the company by Mrs. Chittenden, who contributed violin solos, accompanied by Mrs. H. D. Howley, and by Mrs. Greenwood with vocal solos, her accompanist being Mrs. H. Lock. Adjutant Tyler lucid the attention of the meeting very happily in a thoughtful address on “Mothers,” bringing in something of the pageantry of England. Mrs. F. Wilkinson was door hostess and tea helpers were Mesdames Morrison, Pitcher, Pascoe, Pullyn, Penny, Proctor, W. Peters, L. Peters, Prentice, Palenski, Pierard, Better and Rabone. The president thanked the speaker, the artists and the hostesses and the meeting concluded with a prayer for peace and the National Anthem.
