(From Our Own Correspondent.) Women’s Institute Flower Show The second annual flower show was held on Tuesday last when there was a record number of entries. The president (Mrs. W. E. Baker) extended a welcome to all and expressed her pleasure at seeing so many entries. Members all stood for a moment ’s silence as a mark of respect to Mrs. Heayns who had recently lost her father. Mrs. Baker then spoko of the entries at the Feilding .Show and thanked everyone who had so generously assisted. Mcm--1 bers were pleased to know that the W.I. i had gained first place in the arts and crafts section. Mrs. Moray gave a report on the soldiers’ parcels and said that altogether 15 had been sent away this month. Mrs. Baker has also made up four parcels for the local boys serv- . ing overseas. Several recipe books were disposed of and members were all urged to take the Home and Country at the commencement of tho new year. Nominations for the committee for the ensuing year are required for the annual meeting in March. It was decided to hold a Euchre evening in the hall on Saturday, February 22, the proceeds of this to be for the soldiers’ parcels. Prizes will be donated by Mrs. E. E. Simpson and Mrs. D. W. Beid. A competition arranged by Mrs. Simpson w/s won by Mrs. D. Reid. The competitions for next month will be for the best I aster and the best worked tea-towel. Special attention was drawn to a display of brass, basketry and needlework, these articles all being the work of Watson, John and Heather Camplin, punils of the Waitnna West School. Afternoon tea was served by tho hostesses Mesdames Vincent, Wilton, Lamberton and Hislop. The hostesses for next month will be Mesdames Moray, P. Simpson. Ritchie and Miss L. Vincent.. A hearty vote of thanks was extended to the Misses Matthews and Mrs. League, of Feilding, who judged the exhibits. Walker and her son and daughter have returned to their homo in Auckland after spending the school vacation with her parents, Mr. and Airs. W. E. Baker. Aliss Ngaire Wishnowsky is on a holiday visit to New Plymouth. Mrs. L. Sandbrook and family have returned home after a week’s holiday spent at Foxton Beach, j Mrs. D. F. Thompson and family have I left to spend a holiday at Foxton I Beach Congratulations are extended to the local Women’s Institute for their success in gaining first place in the arts and crafts section at the recent Feilding Show. The sympathy of tho district is extended to Air. A. Humphrey in the death of his mother, Airs. H. Humphrey of Beattie Street, Feilding.
