Irene and Lyra Christian and Joy Craiue have returned to Soiway College alter spending the Christmas vacation with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. Christian and Mr. and Mrs. F. Craiue. Betty McFarlane has also returned to New Plymouth Girls' High Hcliool. Mr. and Mrs. F. Craiue and Miss Iris .Craiue, alter spending a few days in Auckland, are now the guests of Mrs. Craiue s sister, Mrs. Wtorrar, Whanmirei. 9 h lhe members of the Home Guard now meet at the Stauwav Hall every Monday evening under the command of Mr. V. B. {Short. Private Ron Humphrey, Military Training, Waiouru, spent week-end leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. Humphrey. Gift Evening A jolly evening took place recently when the residents of this district gathered to honour Miss Joan Dermer and Mr. Harold. Waugh, who have since been married. The stage had been prettily decorated with large bronze bowls of pastel tinted hydrangeas and agapanthus. Following the serving of supper Mr. E. Christian, in asking Miss Joan Dermer to accept the numerous gilts, spoke of her willingness always to help in any way possible for tiie good of our district and anything she

had undertaken she luid.alwavs excelled at it. Mr. Christian thon, .on. behalf of all present, extended to the. happy couple every good wish for their future, .following musical honours Miss Joan Dernier, who wore a becoming frock of ivory taffeta, unwrapped the many parcels assisited by her sister, Miss Margaret Dernier, who wore plaid taffeta.
