To ensure tho escape of sufficient whitebait to enable stock to be conserved, tentative regulations have been framed by the Government restricting the use of fishing watets and charging a license fee of £1 for venders, states the Christchurch. Press. A copy of the proposed regulations has been sent to the curat or-ranger of the South Canterbury Acclimatisation Society (Mr. F. W. Pellett) and he has been asked to I call a meeting of genuine whitebaiters to discuss the clauses and frame amendments which might be dictated by local conditions.
