ANNUAL FIELD DAY The Salvation Army, on New Year’s Day, held their annual field day at the Ashhurst Domain, this being the thirtieth occasion on which members from Manawatu, Taranaki, Wairarapa and Hawke’s Bay have met. It may bo said that a record crowd assembled. Commissioner Evan Smith (Territorial Commander), Colonel and Airs. Ebbs (Chief Secretary), Brigadier and Airs. Grey (Wellington Divisional Commander) and other officers from Territorial Headquarters, Wellington, were visitors to tHo gathering. The day’s activities commenced with a welcome speeeli from the Commissioner, followed by tue ceremony of the hoisting of the flag, and the Chief Secretary concluded with a prayer. Games, lolly scrambles and races nil attracted the young people as well as giving amusement to the adults. Airs. Major Dick entertained the headquarters staff at dinner. In the afternoon a programme was given by the young people from various corps. The people joined in united singing of old hymns and choruses and the band and songster brigades rendered musical items. At the end of the programme the Commissioner congratulated Aiajor and Airs. Dick and their willing workers for the splendid arrangements that had made for the success of the day. Then, speaking for the social officers, he challenged the field officers to a tug-of-war, the result being a win for the field officers. The visitors then had tea with Airs. Captain Aiajor, afterwards leaving for their homes iu Wellington.
