Mr. and Airs. G. Pitman, of Feilding, together with Aliss Audrey Quail, are spending three weeks at Tangimoana.

Air. and Airs. A. Sporle, of Bailey Street, Feilding, are just now on a visit to Rotorua.

Mr. and Airs. H. L. Simson, York Street, Feilding, with their family are spending a holiday at Foxton Beach.

Miss Mina Hesseltine, of Feilding, leaves to-day to join the nursing staff of the Palmerston North Hospital.

Aliss Ivy Edwards, of Wellington, lias roturned home after a holiday spent iu Feilding and Wanganui.

Mr. and Airs. J. J. Williamson and their children are holidaying at their beach house, Paraparaumu.

Air. and Airs. John Clark, of Feilding, and their little son and daughter are visiting Air. Clark’s people iu the South Island.

Miss Glory Quail, of Feilding, is spending ten days in Wellington, after which she will pay a visit to Paekakariki before returning home.

Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Small, of Rougopai Street, have left to spend a holiday at Diamond Harbour. Mrs. Small will also attend the Y.W.C.A. leaders’ and Girl Citiezns’ conferences in Christchurch.

The friends of Air. and Mrs. E. Burrell will regret to hear that their smalt daughter Joy (well-known iu dancing circles) took ill suddenly on Alonday last and was admitted to hospital, where she underwent an operation for acute appendicitis.

One of the oldest residents of Auckland, Airs. Josiak Turtley, of Avondale Soutn, celebrated - her 90tii birthday last week. Born on January 3, 1851, in Loudon, Airs. Turtley arrived with her parents in Auckland in 1860 i.u the \ essel Caduceus.

Among those taking part, in the South Island croquet championship, which will commence at Nelson to-day are Alesdames R. D. Gambrill, of Palmerston North, and Bryant, of Alanakau. There is a very good and diverse list of entries comprising the cream of Dominion players, and several from Australia. Among tthe contestants will be Palmer, Australian champion, and the leaders in nearly' every province of New Zealand.

Air. and Mrs. A. H. Wright, of High Street, Parkville, Eketahuna, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Alonday last. Mr. and Airs. Wright were married at Woburn, North Canterbury, on December 30, 1800, RevR. Tout officiating. Air. Wright is the third son of the fate Air. and Airs. F. Wright, of Ashley, North Canterbury, and Airs. Wright is a daughter of the Late Mr. and Airs. Daniel B a nits, of Woburn. There are 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The death has occurred after a long illness of Airs. Ellen Mina U ’Connor, at her home in Kohimarama. Airs. O’Connor, who was born iu Christchurch in 1886, was a grand-daughter of Edward Gibbon Wakefield, the great colonial reformer and coloniser of New Zealand and South Australia. She was the sec-

ond daughter of Edward Jerninghara Wakefield, who was one of the pioneer Canterbury' settlers, coming to New Zealand with the Tory expedition iu 1839. He was the author of “Adventure in New Zealand” and was elected a member of the first New Zealand Parliament in 1554 and again returned in 1871. Airs. O’Connor was married in 1890 in Christchurch to the late Air. Charles O’Connor, who was well-known in horse racing circles. Their only son died in 1918 as a result of wounds received in the Great War.
