Feilding Borough Council

LAST NIGHT’S MEETING The Feilding Borough Council met last, evening, tho Mayor, Mr. T. L. Seddon, presiding. There were also present Councillors W. W. Andrews, A. O. Buist, R. Burne, P. B. Desmond, H. J. Dewe, P. G. Guy, C. B. McClure, A. C. McCorkindale. Accounts amounting to £2227 14s Sd ■wero passed for payment. It was announced that the council had formally assumed control of the street giving access.to the Satte houses in Lytton Street. On the recommendation of the finance committee the council approved of an extension of the existing agreement with the Feilding Gasworks for a period of 21 years from November, 1938. A report on dog registration for the current year was presented and this revealed that 361 dogs had been registered while 13 had been destroyed. The revenue on account of the registrations totalled £123 2s 6d and in addition £lB Is luid been received for the sale of anti-hydatid drug. The borough engineer (Mr. T. K. Hay) reported further on the sewerage pump in Giesen’s Road, stating that it had been giving considerable trouble lately. Various measures had been taken in an effort to abate the noise nuisance but without any success. Enquiries were being made for an electrically driven pump which it was considered would overcome the problem. Reporting on the Marlborough Street subdivision for State housing, Cr. McCorkindale staled that the works committee had given further consideration to representations made by the Director of Housing and now recommended that the council withdraw its objection to the layout. At lirst the scheme had not appealed to the committee but on the submissions of the Director of Housing (he committee felt that the proposals could be approved. The council adopted the recommendation. Stormwater drainage on Aorangi Road was the subject of a complaint by Miss Roe, of Aorangi. Cr. McCorkindale. reported that, the alleged trouble had been inspected and it did not appear that the council could acknowledge any responsibility for any inconvenience. The council agreed to inform Miss Roe that it recognised no uegal responsibility in the matter.
