There was a fair attendance at the weekly meeting of tho Palmerston North Chess Club. Before the com-
mencement of play tho secretary, Mr. i R. N. Yorke, made tho announcement E that Dr. Riefer was the winner of the v second section of the handicap tourney ! with a total score of 36 plus points. The gradings for tho players in tho third section are as follows:—Bennett, 1 up one grade; Harper, same grade; Rowlands, same grade; Dr. Riefer, same 1 grade; Miss P. Christensen, up ono J grade; Yorke, same grade; R. Christen- i son, up one grade; Brill, same grade; ’ Collins, up ono grade; Perkins, down < ■one grade; L. Christensen, down one 1 grade; Williams, same grade; Griggs, i up ono grade; Burton, down one grade; i H. Christensen, same grade; Law, up - one grade; B. Klein, same grade; Mugg- < ridge, same grade; H. Klein, same ! grade. j Handicap games played at the meet- 1
ing are:—Miss P. Christensen defeated Bennett; Bennett defeated Yorke. I More time is now being occupied with, the championship games as all competing players aro anxious to finalise theso games so as not to make the tourney too long. Games played in this tournament are as follows:—Dr. Riefer defeated Perkins; L. Christensen defeated Dr. Riefer; Collins defeated H. Christensen; Perkins v. Griggs unfinished; Burton v. R. Christensen unfinished.
