Final Gallops For Grand National

RICCARTON TRIALS Fast Work and Jumping (By Telegraph—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 5. The final fast gallops for the Grand National meeting were got off at Ric--1 carton this morning. Following an overnight frost, the outside of the course proper provided good going, and the sun shone brightly for a time, but sopn disappeared. Counterblast did five furlongs in 1.2 4-5, the last four in 44 4-ssecs. Trench Fight covered a mile in 1.43 3-5, beat- ' ing Good Passage over the last half- ; mile in 51 4-ssecs. King Gustavo and Tooley Street left five furlongs behind in 51 secs. Swingtime was a neck in front of St. Cloud at the end of five furlongs run in 1.4 2-5. Jameaux. Ravine and Jed Forrest, did four furlongs up the back in 52 secs. ! Grey Honour beat Grey Night and ; Blue Coat over five furlongs in 1.4 2-5. Gay Rebel, Phenomenal and Ohmaha were in that order at the end of six furlongs in 1.19 2-5. Mittie did an easy half-mile in 52 4-ssecs. Night Calm, with Montessa over the , last five furlongs ran seven furlongs 1 in 1.32 4-5, without being hurried. Strip and Boloyna took 1.19 2-5 for six furlongs, Valgntua and Night Pal following over five furlongs in 1.4 1-5. Panara was in front of {Slayer and Mount Val at the end of a mile in 1.47. Schoolgirl and Shanghai Lily were on terms at the end of five furlongs in 1 1-5.

Dictate just beat Roy Bun, with Silver Streak several lengths back, at the end of six furlongs in 1.17 3-5. Jan Ridd and Merry March did four furlongs up the back in 54 2-ssecs. Indian Sun and Not Out took 51 3-5 for a halfmile down the straight. Captain Bruce and Capricious took 1.34 4-5 for seven furlongs, Dranoel beating Tinto Tam in 1.35 2-5. Flame Queen did a half-mile in 51secs. Settlement, slow away, beat Balmenter at tho end of six furlongs in 1.23, the last four taking 53secs. Catalogue and Astaire were on terms at the end of six furlongs in 1.17 4-5, the last half-mile in 51 4-ssecs. Land Raid and Wine Card went well over five furlongs in 1.4. Nightdress and Waitaka did seven furlongs in 1.32 2-5. Master Hotspur and Konncta were mates over a smart six furlongs in 1.17 3-5, the former being just in front. Aggravate and Lockit took 50 4-ssecs for a half-mile. Wagner and Waka did six furlongs in J. 19 4-5. Haughty Winner, with Wapaugh after two furlongs, covered seven furlongs in 1.31 3-5. The former was well in front. Pink Dress did a half-mile in 53 3-ssecs. Lord Midas took 53 l-ssecs for the same distance.

Lady Don was no match for Fasinator over five furlongs, the last halfmile in 51 2-ssecs. Sir Gladsome, up the back, took the same time. Spanish Lad was several lengths clear of Niggerboy at the end of seven furlongs in 1.34 3-5. the last half-mile in 54 4-5 secs. Skysena easily beat Pol Roger over five furlongs in 1.4 1-5. Gay Parade did a half-mile up the back in 50 3-ssecs The Jumpers. McHeath (L. Gough). Pink Robe (L Powell), Newly Rich (D. R. Craddock) went for a school over six furlongs. Pink Robe ran off at the second, but otherwise gave a good exhibition. Araboa (T. J. Boyle) went well over four hurdles. Silk Sox (j. Toki) and Disturbed (J. McLaughlan) gave an excellent exhibition over eight hurdles at a sound pace all the way. Colonel French (T. Boyle) and Aussie Ra (A. E. Lord) were together all the way over six hurdles. Doth jumped well. Bit O’ Blue (U. Brown) gave a much better display than Gasmask (G. Elliott) over six hurdles. Red Terror (C. Hamill) went twice round the steeplechase fences in the centre. He jumped the first brush all right, but baulked at the sod will and scrambled over it. When set at it again he got over the other fence, but it was a poor effort. The Sandwichman met with a slight mishap when schooling a few days ago, and his programme &>r next week is uncertain.

This morning’s arrivals from the North Island were: Majority, Ned Cuttle, Le Toquet, Hunting Mint, Windsor Chief, Little Robin, Etzel, Jewelled Girdle, Ellanui, Dungarvan, Lord Cavendish. Might, Lustral, Royal Show, Gay Hunting, Lowenberg, Chat, Kaiwaka, Glenvane, Ruling Spi, Lady Montana, Gay Chou, Tidewaiter, and Aurora’s Star.
