LAMB VALUES STEADY WELLINGTON, July 21. The Meat Producers’ Board reports on the Smithfield market for the period ended July 20 states that the lamb market is steady, with prices practically unchanged and consumption satisfactory. There is a better inquiry for wethers, with prices firmer, but ewes are quiet, though prices are steadq. Owing to the higher chilled beef prices there is a better trade in frozen beef. Chilled beef is firmer on lighter supplies and a good demand. New Zealand porker pigs are quiet, with little change in prices. Baconer pigs are steady owing to light stocks. Boneless bobby veal is firm on short spot stocks. Quotations are:— New' Zealand sheep: Crossbred wethers and/or maiden ewes, 49-sGlb., 4 5-8 d; 57-641 b., 4*d. New Zealand lambs: North Island first quality, 37-421 b., 6§d; second quality, average about 311 b., 6 7-Bd. Argentine lambs not quoted. New Zealand frozen beef.—Second quality: Hinds, 145-2101 b., 4d; fores, 3 1-Sd. Chilled beef (average prices for the week): — New Zealand, hinds and fores, not quoted. Australian.—Hinds, s£d; crops, 3|d. Union of South Africa: 6d, 3 J-8d; Southern Rhodesian, sd, 3Jd; Argentine, 6 5-Bd, 4Jd; Uruguayan, 6 l-Bd, 3 7-Sd; Brazilian, hinds, s|d. New Zealand porker pigs: First quality, 101-1201 b., 6Jd; others are unchanged.
