From Our Own Correspondent Visitors came far afield to attend the 35th annual reunion of the Sandon Old Boys' Association at Sandon on Friday ! evening. The function was marked by enthusiasm and goodwill, there being a , record attendance, many of whom were loud in their praise of the alterations and additional facilities provided at the local hail. Appreciative reference was made Iby the visitors to the splendid arrangements made for the function, much of the credit being due to the activities of Cue , local ladies' committee and the live secretary, Mr. Alan G. Nesbit, and his active committee. Once again the ladies’ committee made a feature of the supper. The only decorations in the hall were those carried out on the stage, where greenery was hung at each side and in front of the stage an illuminated sign was hung with the word “Welcome” in relief and the association monogram. The stage was suitably furnished with easy chairs to provide a lounge. The supperroom was decorated with streamers in pink and gold, while bowls of Iceland poppies were laid on the tables, and with a splendid repast In front of them the guests felt at home in such a warm atmosphere. The hostesses for the evening were Mesdames W. E. Pearce, H. J. Fagan, C. E. Eglinton and J. C. Fagan. Pleasing items were rendered by the Misses N. and J. Masters (duet), N. Lawrence (musical monlogue), D. Flyger (recitations), E. Berkahn, Kongotea (solos), and Mr. J. Chapman, Palmerston North (humorous solo), while a professional orchestra provided excellent music for dancing. Messrs. J. C. Fagan, R. H. Meyer, K. Lunxsden and J. Coulter carried out the duties of M’s.C. to the satisfaction of all In extending a welcome to all old pupils and particularly the visitors, Mr. W. J. Croucher (Palmerston North) said it was a great pleasure to the association to see what must be a record attendance, as it was very gratifying to the committee to know that the interest was being sustained. Replies had been received from many who had not acknowledged the invitation on previous occasions. One of these, a Mr. C. D. Scarrow, of Raetihi, replied for the first time in 35 years and stated that he was one of the original pupils of the school. Mr. Croucher remarked that lie was pleased to welcome Mrs. M. Kennedy (Gisborne), who is one of the senior old pupils, and then apologised for the absence of the Hon. P. Fraser, Minister of Education, lion. J. G. Cobbe, M.P., Messrs. G. Levy (Whangarei), J. Bowater (Levin), J. Anderson (Wellington), C. D. Scarrow (Raetihi), E. Swanger (Wanganui), F. Read (Bulls), Mr. and Mrs. G. Frances (Oroua Downs), Mr. and Mrs. C. Masters (Feilding), Mrs. W. J. Croucher (Palmerston North) and the Misses Penny (Sandon). To mark the association’s appreciation of the work always undertaken by the ladies of the district, Ml - . Croucher called on Mrs. H. J. Fagan and Mrs. W. E. Pearce, as representative of all helpers, and asked them to accept respectively for* the evening the badge of the president and past president. Mrs. Pearce thanked Mr. Croucher for the honour bestowed on Mrs. Fagan and herself, and said that all the ladies were only too pleased to assist in this work.
