Colyton

From Our Own Correspondent. Young Farmers’ Club The July meeting of the Colyton branch was presided over by Mr. R. ShortalJ, there being a good attendance. The lecturer for the evening was Mr. Kenneth Krammes, an American geologist employed by an American oil company at present conducting a geological survey in New Zealand, the subject being “Geology as applied to the search for oil.” The address created great interest, Mr. Krammes explaining to members the formations that a geologist looks for in searching for oil. At the conclusion of his lecture, Mr. Krammes invited questions, which were readily forthcoming. In the ensuing discussion Mr. Krammes was called upon to answer many questions connected with the search for oil in New Zealand and methods of boring, refining and general work on the American oil-fields. A vote of thanks was accorded the speaker for his address, a unique one for the club. Afternoon for Bride-to-be In view of her approaching marriage, Miss Jean Funston was the guest of honour at a very delightful afternoon hostessed by Mrs. A. (_>. Simpson. The afternoon was dedicated to washhouse requisites, and the popular young bride-to-be was the recipient of many useful gifts of that nature. The large drawing-room was Tastefully arranged with bowls of japonica and flowers of autumn toning, while a cheery log fire was a pleasing contrast to wintry conditions outside, and in this pleasant atmosphere a very enjoyable afternoon passed all too quickly with games and novelties, Mrs. A. Funston and Mrs. Laughton being the successful contestants in the latter. Following the serving of afternoon tea, the hostess, in asking Miss Funston to accept the many gifts, expressed the wish of the gathering for the future happiness of the guest of honour, who suitably conveyed fter thanks and pleasure. Mrs. Simpson received her guests wearing a Burgundy wool romaine ensemble, while Miss Funston chose a smart London tan frock. Mrs. A. Funston wore a becoming navy frock, with trimmings and accessories to tone. A charming gesture was the presentation of a bouquet of violets to the guest of honour by little Barbara Simpson. Among those present were Mesdames A. O. Simpson, A. Funston, H. E. Hocken, Murphy, Laughtn, N. Pearce, J. Williamson, Tremewan, J. Walker, S. Hocken; .Misses J. and A. Funston and H. Hocken.
