Mrs. S. Trask, Palmerston North, was a recent visitor to Wellington. After a visit to Hamilton, where sho was the guest of Mrs. E. Zicsler, Mrs. J. J. Busch has returned to Palmerston North. Mrs. W. McA. Duncan, Taihape, will leave Wellington by the Awatea cn Wednesday for Sydney, where sho will spend some months. Mr. and Mrs. C. Dalgety, of Mangaweka, and their small son, are visitors to Palmerston North, and leave tomorrow to join the Awatea at Wellington en route for Sydney where they will spend two or three weeks. Miss Eileen Boswortb, of Palmerston North, will accompany them. Miss Dodie Smith, the playwrignt who & made her name with “Autumn Crocus,” stated that she was secretly married in America a few weeks ago to her business manager, Mr. Alec Beesley, says a writer in the London Daily Telegraph last month. She declined to say where [ the marriage took place. She is writing ■ a new play which she hopes will be produced in London in the autumn. They ! intend to visit New Orleans, Arizona .' and Hollywood before returning to . I England. Mr. Beesley has been Miss • Dodie Smith’s manager for live years. J “The New Zealand Moppett” is , Hollywood's name for a Wellington [' child, Melva Doney, who has gained her I entrance into Max Reinhart’s “work* [ shop” in Hollywood. She is the only , student under the age of sixteen years at the “workshop,” where she will i come in contact with Freddie Bartholomew and Ronald Sinclair, the Dunedin ,boy (Ra Hould), among others. During a test at the studios for the leading child role in a wireless test play Melva was chosen for the New York cast, but it was decided that she should not leave Hollywood, and she signed a contract with Universal Films. Melva was trained by Miss Helen Gardner and with i her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Doney, went to America a short time ago. Her father’s death occurred just after she 1 had gained her entrance into Max Reinhart’s school. ! = ~
