GANGSTERS AND G-MEN SET TO MUSIC The brilliant and charming Jessie Matthews has at last been given the opportunity to do full justice to her many talents, and she does —in ‘ ‘ Sparkles,’ ’ a novel, sparkling, exciting musical. The story sets a new standard for screen musicals, and when we tell you that Jessie sings, dances (as never before) and acts in a role packed with delightful comedy and dramatic action, it is needless to add that ‘‘Sparkles” is an ideal entertainment. As an ambitious newspaper reporter, Jessie is mistaken for “Sparkles/* a notorious jewel thief, and the police and crooks refuse to be shaken in this belief. To tell any more of the story would be to spoil the film for those you haven’t seen it, but the excitement from this point onwards is intense, and the musical numbers put over in unusual circumstances are all pippins. Playing opposite Jessie Matthews is Barry Mac Kay, who sings and dances for the first time on the screen. Patrons who saw him in “The Great Barrier” will look forward to seeing him again. Don’t miss “Sparkles.”
