St. Andrews’ Close Game With Rovers
REPRESENTATIVES TOR WELLINGTON ANNOUNCE! Conditions for soccer at North Stree Park on Saturday were very trying No. 1 ground being ankle-deep in mu< after the recent heavy rains and No. : ground being in a similar condition bu to a lesser degree. Nevertheless som interesting soccer was witnessed am though the players floundered through ; quagmire'all afternoon they appeared t> enjoy it. In front of the stand Y.M.C.A. me Thistlo and in the first half the gam was very exciting, the score at the ad journment being two all. After the spell Thistlo began to re gain form and swept to a comfortabl victory by nine goals to two. In th opening spoil it appeared as if Y.M.CA would have a good chance of winnin ; but they just couldn’t continue the fas pace they had set earlier. For Thistle the scorers were Hurcom. 3, Allen 3, Glaister, Moore and Hearsey one each. For Y.M.C.A. goals were scored by Searle and Gatley. The teams were as follow: Thistle: Kempson, Hearsey, Bodell, It. Young, Reynolds, Allen, Glaister, Ilur* comb, Moore, Geekie, Downes. Y.M.C.A.: Howard, Bradley, Brougham, Gatley, llarkness, Searle, Ward, Dingwall, Davidson, Andrews, Gilliand. Mr. Locke controlled the match. Rovers v. St. Andrew’s. On the second ground Rovers met St. Andrew’s and a good game resulted, St. Andrew’s winning by two goals to nil. Up to half-time there had been no scoring and Rovers put up a great fight in the second spell. Here again the ground was very slippery and this uo doubt affected the play. For St. Andrew's A. Young goaled twice. The teams were:— Rovers: Anderson, Oman, Pagan, Laing, Blummont, Donnelly, Armstrong, C. Hart, F. Hart, Ramsay, Sullivan. St. Andrew’s: Chilton, J. Broughton, Turner, Anderson, W. Young, McSheffrey, Petersen, Bell, A. Young, Rickard, Horne. The referee was Mr. W. Lyons. Junior Games. Results of junior games player prior to the senior games were as follow: High School 2, Technical 0; St. Andrew’s 3, Marist 1. Representative Team Chosen. The sole selector, Mr. H. G. Shouler, has selected the following players to represent Manawatu against Wellington at Wellington next Saturday:—Goal, W. Lyon (St. Andrew’s); right
