Wool Research

NEW SCOURING PROCESS The Interuationul Wool Secretariat has learnt that steps are being taken to introduce a new wool scouring process, developed on the Continent, to tho British wool textile industry. For this process it is claimed no soaps or alkalis are necessary, thus greatly reducing the risk of damage to the wool fibre which results unless careful chemical and temperature controls are employed. It is maintained also that dyeing is facilitated and, most important perhaps, tlie time and cost of scouring is considerably reduced. An additional advantage claimed is that almost complete recovery of wool fats is possible at both lower cost and in an improved form when compared with existing methods. It is only natural that any new scouring process should be regarded with considerable scepticism, and the International Wool Secretariat is not in a position to fora an opinion as to the practicability or merits of the process. The Secretariat, however, has put the ageut, Dr. P. Bleyer, in touch with several members of the industry and with the director of the Wool Indutsries Research Association, as it seems highly desirable that tho method should be investigated and submitted to comprehensive tests by the Research Association.
