Floods in North-east Victoria

THOUSANDS OF ACRES INUNDATED United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Friday, 11.35 p.m. MELBOURNE, June 30. Throughout north-east Victoria, precautions are belnj taken to meet serious flood thre ts. Thousands of acres are already covered by flood waters. The Ovens and King Rivers, which have blocked the roads, have driven many settlers from their homes. Using boats the Wangaratta police took 14 people from flooded homes on the banks of the King River. Though the rain has ceased now more is expected. The Goulburu River is still rising and a great quantity of water has still to come from its tributaries. From Corryong to the Hume dam, miles of land on each side of the River Murray are deeply flooded. If the anticipated rain comes, Wangaratta town, much of which is low-lying, may experience one of the worst floods in its history. Some homes are already flooded to a depth of four feet and the market, parks and sports areas are inundated.
