Manawatu Heads

From Our Own Correspondent. Sunny weather still prevails at the beach for the school holidays, but the nights are cold with occasional frosts. Good progress is being made with the ramp, which should be completed as far as possible lor the present at the end of the week. The men engaged on this work will be transferred to the clearing of the sports area and the formation of Holben Farado. The m.v. Huanui, which has been in port for some considerable time, bumped on the bar when crossing- on Sunday afternoon and returned to the river to await more favourable conditions. Personal Mrs. B. Speedy and Mr. J. Speedy, Palmerston North, have been staying with Mrs. Grffin at her cottage at the Western Extension. Mr. and Mrs. C. McGlone and family and Miss Margaret McGlone, KimboWon, are staying on the riverfront for the school holidays. Mr. and Mrs. W. Boyce are touring in the north. Mr. and Mrs. C. Boyce and infant. Palmerston North, are at home for the school holidays. Mr. and Mrs. K. Dando have returned from a caravan tour in the Rotorua district. .\ii. and jus. „. .ucKvedy and family, Fitzherbert, are occupying their beach cottage for the remainder of the vacation. Mr. and Mi’s. 15.I 5 . Robbie and fumilv, Palmerston North, who are here for the holidays, are putting the finishing touches to their new cottage. Beach Improvement Society A committee meeting of the Beach Improvement Society was held during the week-end. Mr. M. E. Perreau occupied the chair, and the following were present: Messrs. N. Amos, G. Watchorn, G. Wells, W. Booth, G. Kenyon, O. Coles, S. Hartley, J. Smith, C Parfitt and the secretary, A D. Maepherson. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr. A. Alsop was carried, members standing in silence. Correspondence was received from the Harbour Board intimating that a meeting of leaseholders will be held on May JO for the purpose of discussing the Glasgow lease. The secretary was instructed to communicate with Mr. W. Barber and arrange for a meeting to discuss the Government scheme for the improvement of playing areas. It was resolved that any leaseholder desirous of connecting up with the artesian water supply should apply to the committee, wiheh has power to grant the application. The applications of Messrs. M. E. Perreau and G. Watchorn for connections with the supply were granted. It was resolved that legal advice in connection with the Glasgow leases be obtained and brought up for discussion when received. The erection of swings at the east end of the beach Is to receive consideration at the next meeting. Votes of thanks were passed to Mr. L. Foupard, of Glen Oroua, for his donation of 10s to the society’s funds, to (Saptain Bald for renovations to swings and to Mr. G. Wells for installation of a sink in the supper room. Congratulations were extended to Mr. T. Devey, Te Aroha, the winner of the canteen of cutlery in the society's Easter competition. Mr. and Mrs. Devey were on their honeymoon tour and participated in the competition when passing through Palmerston North, little thinking that they were making themselves a handsome wedding present.
