From Our Own Correspondent. Table Tennis Club There was a splendid attendance at the weekly practice of the Table Tennis Club. Button winners for the week were: A grade, A. C. Matthews: B grade, Misses Jean Butler, E. N. Butler and N. S. Butler e(qual); C grade, Miss V. Butler; D grade, R. Davey; E grade, Miss M. Matthews. The following playing will represent the club in the first match of tWfe Manawatu Tabic Tennis Association’s competitions:—First B: A. C. Matthews (captain), Miss M. Butltr, R. Lumsden, Miss L. Lumsden, R. Meyer and Miss J. Butler—this team will meet Takaro at Sanson. Second B team, to play Milson at Milson: Messrs. K. N. Pearce (captain), G. Williams, E. N. Butler, J. Coulter, C. N. Oppatt and N. S. Butler First C grade, to play Takaro at Takaro: Messrs. J. F. Bradley (captain), C. Bishop, K. Henson, Miss V. Butler, T. H. Williams and R. W. Oppatt. Personal Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Pearce, accompanied by their two dauglitei's, have returned from a holiday spent in Napier. Mr. and Mrs. F. Harris are staying with Mrs. Harris’s’ mother, Mrs. F. Grace, Foxton Line. Mr. V. M. Mali on has returned from a holiday spent with his parents in Waipukurau. Mr. W. J. Rowan, the postmaster, is having his annual vacation, Mr. R. A Lester being relieving postmaster. Card Evening Held The opening night oi me card evenings conducted by the local branch of the Labour Party was held on Thursday evening, when the attendance was somewhat disappointing. Despite the poor attendance a pleasant evening was spent by all. The euchre was won by Mrs. E. J. Bowater and Mr. C. Emrie. The cribbage winner was Mr. Geo. Hall, and the consolation prizes went to Mrs. D. C. Sanson, Mr. E. Wilcock and Mr. J. W. Meyer. A competition was won oy Mrs Les. Bowater, of Foxton. The president, Mr. D. C. Sanson, thanked all lor coming along and said he hoped they had enjoyed the evening. Mr. Sanson referred to the big improvements being carried out at the hall which would add very largely to the comfort of those using the nail. The monthly meeting of the local branch of the Labour Party was held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Hope last week. There was a good attendance, Mr. D. C. Sanson being in the chair. \**si tors for tlie meeting included Mr. 9. Carroll and Mr. W. A. Hurst, president and secretary respectively of the Manawatu L.R.C., and Mr. W. A. Churchill, president of the Rongotea branch. A full report of the last meeting of the Manawatu L.R.C. was given by Mr. A. G. Nesbit. A letter of appreciation is to be sent to Mr. W. H. Oliver (Feilding) for his faithful and fintiring- service rendered this electorate during his term of office as area officer. Mr. Carroll congratulated the local branch upon its organisation and said he was pleased to see the meetings so well conducted. Mr. Hurst referred to the report presented by Mr. Nesbit regarding the last L.R.C. meeting at Milson and outlined the work he had planned for the near future. The Government was doing a great job of work, said Mr. Hurst, and it was pleasing to see that the Manawatu branch was still as enthusiastic in branch matters as ever. Mr. Hurst thanked E. J. Bowater for the assistance he had rendered to the speaker since he had held the office of president. Concluding, Mr. Hurst said it was a pleasure to visit the Sanson branch, and although his branch, Rongotea, was only a young branch, they had made rapid strides and Sanson would have to look to their laurels to keep up with them. An interesting aiscussion took place regarding the constitution of the party. Mr. Sanson thanked Mr. Hurst and other speakers for their kind remarks and assured the visitors of the hearty cooperation of this branch. Supper served by the ladies’ committee concluded the meeting.
